Camping with Horses at Fort Robinson
The historic Fort Robinson State Park covers more than 22,000 acres in northwestern Nebraska, strewn with sand bluffs, pine groves, and free roaming bison and longhorn cattle. A historic cavalry fort, the area is steeped in Western history, and you can visit the museum and old fort buildings. The area offers an abundance of trails for riding as well as other recreational activities.
Horses
Bring your own horse - Stalls at each camp site allow you to camp out right next to your horse! Please read the Guest Horse Guidelines if you plan to bring your horse. Owners are responsible for their own feed, cleaning, and care.
Riders of any discipline are welcome, but must be saddled (no bareback riding with the group). Riders must bring all their own tack and equipment.
Riding
Intermediate-Advanced. Since riders are bringing their own horses, a minimum of intermediate level riding is required. Accompanying non-riders are welcome to join for camping and meals.
Join a daily trail ride with Equescapes or ride out on your own or with your own group. All trail rides are optional and vary in length and duration.
Terrain
Fort Robinson State Park and the surrounding area offer a wide variety of terrain to ride through, from wide open plains, to pine forests, to creek beds lined with meadows and cottonwood groves, to towering sandy bluffs. Trails vary from wide gravel roads to single dirt tracks.
The footing is mostly soft with some rocky areas. Shoes or boots for horses are always recommended.
